In 1997, during the term of Pres. Fidel V. Ramos, Abraham (Baham) Mitra was appointed as Presidential Assistant for Palawan Affairs.
He became a member of the Palawan Council for sustainable Development in 1997 representing the Office of the President.
Following the footsteps of his father, the late Ramon V. Mitra Jr., Baham challenged Cong. Alfredo Abueg in the last election in the 2nd Congressional District of Palawan where he won confidently.
