Salient Achievements
Protection and Enforcement
Major activities implemented during the year consisted of regular foot patrol and monitoring in the Park’s area of responsibility and surrounding buffer zone communities including Barangays Cabayugan, Tagabinet and Marufinas; regular night patrol of the marine sanctuary; inspection and inventory of the rattan species from Cabayugan CADC – 027 with a total of 17,554 LM; and regular inspection of vehicles to monitor illegal forest products that were brought to the city proper.
Research and Restoration
In 2004, the park’s accomplishments consisted of the inventory of bats inside the cave, tree planting activities in the forest corridor area, collection of wildlings for the establishment of the botanical garden and restoration of portions of the jungle trail.
Tourism and Information
The park completed the production of 10,000 pcs. of park brochures for distribution to visitors; provided assistance to Japan University, the students from Miriam College, GMA TV Network and ABS-CBN during their shooting of Kudyapi and Lakbay-aral of other Local Government Units; collected a total amount of P3,298.025.37 from January - November 2004 and conducted film showing for Cabayugan residents during the park’s Foundation Day.
Community Development
The activities undertaken for the year were meetings involving development partners, Barangay Council and People’s Organizations operating in the area; monitoring the operation of three organizations such as the URHMPC, SSFSC and Mangrove Paddle Boat Tour; participation in Barangay Cabayugan development planning through participatory resource appraisal; assistance in officiating sports activities during barangay and CADC Foundation Day celebrations; and assistance to residents of So. Sabang in the construction of the barangay stage.
Maintenance and Development
Completed the construction of septic tank and perimeter fence for the 1 hectare park at the Cabayugan Information Center, renovation of the 50m portion of the monkey trail, repair of the 20m sea wall of Sabang pier, filling up of the damaged portion of the Cabayugan barangay road and hauling of garbage from the Central Park Station and Underground River for proper disposal.
Administration and Supervision
The major activities accomplished consisted of PAMB meetings, operation of the Cabayugan Information Center, monitoring of the collection of entrance fee and use of the park, maintenance of a systematic file of all the park’s official communications and documents and purchase of construction materials and equipment.
