Project Evaluation

The Project Operations and Implementation Department was heavily involved in the evaluation of various undertakings in the province. For the year, 184 project evaluation reports were prepared by the staff in collaboration with the District Management Offices that formed part of the evaluation team. Of these, 77 projects were issued SEP Clearance while 13 fishery projects were issued PCSD Accreditation. The rest were held in abeyance towards the second half of the year. These include the issuance of chainsaw registration and PCSD live fish accreditation pending PCSD’s approval of the policy on regulation of chainsaw and live fish.

A total of 1,167 projects were evaluated by the department from 2000-2004 for the issuance of SEP Clearance/Accreditation. Of these, 933 projects were approved and issued the corresponding clearances/accreditations, 39 projects were denied and about 133 projects were awaiting evaluation and/or approval. Majority of the approved projects came from proponents seeking chainsaw registration (576) and those applying for live fish accreditation (197). SEP Clearances were also given to a number of gravel and sand projects (35), major infrastructure/road projects (30), cell site/relay stations (28) and resorts and Special Use Permits for bathing establishments (17). Those that were denied by the Council consisted of projects applying clearances for gold panning, clearances/accreditation for fishery projects and those applying for sluicing permits. The list of projects evaluated for the year and their status is shown below:
