Did you know that due to Palawan’s rich but unique natural endowments it was declared by UNESCO as Man & Biosphere Reserve?

Yes, Palawan was awarded or given recognition by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ) on their program "Programme on Man and the Biosphere" recognizing the importance that the Palawan Biosphere Reserve plays in the global ecosystem. The award was given in Paris, France last March 27, 1990.

The UNESCO declaration says

“ Palawan Biosphere Reserve

Is recognized as part of the international Network of biosphere reserves, this network of protected samples of the world’s major ecosystem types is devoted to Conservation of Nature and scientific research in the service of man. It provides a standard against which can be measured the effects of man’s impact on his environment."
