Continuation from front page
The PCSDS organized and train a team from its staff who shall maintain and sustain the project, namely: Joseph Dador, Arnel Cariño, Evjeny Piñero, Roger abis, Merlina Gallego and Ledwina Romantico.
PCSDS Vermi-Team completing the training
conducted by CMO-PPC Beekeeping Program
The project initially started with worms seeded (about 2 kilos) which was donated by Mr. Bobby Castro, a known Palaweño businessman who also maintain vermicomposting project in his farm at Bacungan this city, and with the help of the CMO-Pto. Princesa Beekeeping Program the PCSDS underwent hands-on training.
Vermicomposting is simple. Office compostible solid wastes are collected and stocked in a composting bed, mixed, and seeded with worms. These mixed wastes become the food of the worms. Manures of these worms form the vermicast which is an odorless, porous , environment-friendly and fertile material for plants.
Soon the project will be expanded to houses of the staff and eventually to neighboring communities. This way, wastes are properly managed and turned to earth on a usable form.Subsequently, in December 2009, the PCSDS will implement the “PBA or Palit-Basura sa Abono” program where staff can exchange solid wastes to vermicast.
The PCSDS Management was overwhelmed with this initial success, as vermi-composting is a simple form in mitigating Climate Change. The PCSDS is now chanting “Let’s Stop Global Warming, Go Go Global WORMING!!!”
