Taking a break from the usual ticking of computer keyboards, the PCSDStaff celebrates the Earth Day on April 22 via “Painit sa PSDTI” (visayan term for merienda at PSDTI, literally though painit means enjoying under the striking heat of the sun)”. Early morning the staff joins the City governments’ program at Mendoza Park witnessing speeches of keynote speakers and guests enumerating environmental messages and tips on adaptation and mitigation of Climate Change

Afterwards, the staff proceeded to the PCSD-managed Palawan Sustainable Development Training Institute (PSDTI) at Bgy. Irawan, and soiled the hands by planting vegetables (okra, bell pepper, and string beans). The idea is to fill the side-office landscape with vegetables. Then visits the Vermi-composting project it installed last year where the vermicasts will be used in enriching the vegetable garden. Finally, volleyed with the ball at the office compound for the inter-color volleyball and basketball tournament.

The staff realized that: the almost one day off from the office work generated savings on electricity as the lights, air-cons, computers are off. Secondly, that to promote “vegetarianism” is an envi-friendly practice as studies have shown that taking vege- foods (compared to meat) generates less carbon emissions. Plus the continuing camaraderie building among the staff via games.

Simply, the staff were jubilant enjoying the heat profusely perspiring, getting dirty hands but still wacky in posing for the camera...and learn from how to improve our relationship with worms at the vermi-farm.
