PCSDS-GIS as tool to SEP implementation in Palawan

The Geographic Information System (GIS) of PCSDS may be considered as one of the most extensive and info-crisp systems in Palawan today. Various thematic maps can now be retrieved from the system, and will continue to produce more as it is being enriched with new information to serve its use.

Mr. Ryan Fuentes, PCSDS staff, during the interview, stressed that the system is more than just a computer based system but rather an effective tool to help in decision making. Considering that PCSD is a policy making agency, information from the GIS is enriching.

The GIS is an effective tool used by the PCSDS Environmental Monitoring and Evaluation System, to track changes in the environment of Palawan thus providing the PCSD with a scientific and realistic picture necessary in projecting better decisions. Fuentes said that the system had been very useful not only to the PCSD but as well with other clients and students needing situational information such as thematic maps of Palawan”.

Mr. Fuentes is a geodetic engineer, he's been with PCSDS for almost a decade and had since been in-charge with
doddling the GIS computer - system.
