PCSD Staff Trained on Laboratory Operations

PCSD Staff on training: Briccio Abela, Pearl Quiling, Joy Tablazon, Arlene Dominguez with Mervin Nagales & Teofilo ViguellaFour PCSD Staff involved in environmental monitoring and evaluation underwent a 17-day training on laboratory operations at the Environmental Management Bureau - Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Quezon City. Two other staff from Palawan PENRO and NGO Network joined the training sponsored by Malampaya Natural Gas Project.

PCSD intends to seek recognition from DENR on analyses related to pH, color, total suspended/dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen, BODs, chemical oxygen demand, oil and grease, chromium hexavalent, cyanide, coliform (fecal), coliform (total), nitrate as nitrogen and other metals.

Upon acquisition of the required chemical, apparatus and equipment prescribed by DENR and with the capability on analyses works, the PCSD Staff Environmental Laboratory will be considered as a (what?)

In 2002, the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) launched its Environmental Laboratory with the first ever prime facility in Palawan - Hand-ons the auto water sampler: Abela, Tablazon & Quilingthe Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS). It is the second most comprehensive type of its kind in the Philippines after the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC). The unit came as a grant from Brandenburg,Germany. It is a part of the deal between Brandenburg and the Province of Palawan.

AAS capability will cater to scientific and commercial purposes by analyzing heavy metals and 21 other elements in parts per billion (ppb) as it features three techniques: atomic absorption, atomic emission and atomic fluorescence which are beneficial in addressing various scientific-analytical problems.

The environmental laboratory is a special support facility to our Environmental Monitoring and Evaluation System and more so it will provide services to public and private institutions.
