Scientific Name : Grammatophyllum scriptum (L.) Bl.
"Tigre is an epiphytic orchid with clustered, robust and stout pseudobulbs; 20 cm long, and 8 cm wide; young pseudobulbs clothed with membranous sheath, each pseudobulb terminating with 4-8 leaves. The leaves are lanceolate or oblanceolate, leathery, 60 cm long, and 7.5 cm wide. The inflorescence arises from base of pseudobulbs, with numerous flowers, 150 cm long. The flowers vary in size and color though the color is generally yellowish-green, blotched or spotted with brown, purple, bronze or olive-green. The lip is three lobed, hairy, marked with purple or yellowish-white, streaked with brown.
This species is found in Luzon, Catanduanes, Mindoro, Samar, Leyte and Palawan where it is found in lowland areas, common in primary forests from sea level to 500 m altitude. It is recorded in Taytay and in Quezon (Tamlangon), and also in Borneo and Indonesia.
Tigre is an ornamental plant that flowers during the months of January to August."
