Taytay - The First Capital of the Province

Taytay Fort

     It is a northern municipality of the Province. Located some 250 kilometers away from Puerto Princesa City. Taytay together with Cuyo are the oldest towns in the Province. In 1622 Count San Agustin was commissioned by Governor General Fajardo to establish the first Spanish colony in Taytay and Cuyo. In Taytay A Fort was constructed . The Construction was started in 1667. In 1700,some 100 exiles from other provinces were sent to help build the fort. It was finally finished on December 17, 1783 under the term of Gobernadorcillo Tierra de Salcedo.

     The fort is about 50 square meters and 30 to 40 feet in height.It is constructed with towers on its four corners and a single gate made of thick iron bars. The walls are made of two feet by one foot slabs of stone which was believed to be taken from the bottom of the sea.

     When the Spaniards lorded it over the municipality, the for served three primary purposes.It was a watchtower from local and foreign would be invaders. It also serves as a house for Spanish Officials. It serves also as a shelter for people in times of attacks from unfriendly forces .

     The municipality of Taytay is richly endowed by nature with its many beautiful sights and surroundings. First,It is also where the once fish-bowl of the Philippines is located- The Malampaya Sound. Taytay is also home to Lake Danao, a lake situated on top of the mountain, wherein there are some recorded endemic wildlife that lives in the area. The famous Club Noah Isabelle resort is also located in the municipality of Taytay
